Parent Relief Night 2010

03/22/2010, 9:55am (CDT)
By J Brenny

It’s that time of year again. The very reason most of us even put our kids in hockey…Parent Relief Night!

Parent Relief Night 2010
Champlin American Legion
Saturday, March 27th

This year we’ll be at the Champlin Legion, and there is no cost for admission. We have half of the main room reserved for the association parents. The social hour begins at 6:30 pm, and we’ll start giving away door prizes at 7:30 pm. We have some cool stuff to give away this year and you must be present to win of course.

The band starts at 8:30 pm featuring SnaggleToof! You’ll definitely want to stick around for this portion of the evening as one of the members of the band is an association parent. This is a fantastic opportunity to point and laugh at him! He won’t mind, he’ll think you’re cheering.

If you have any questions regarding Parent Relief Night, please feel free to contact Jeanne Christoffer at jeannegdlt@live.com or Craig Walters at craig_walters@relymedia.com.

We look forward to seeing all of you without sweatshirts and stocking caps.

Girls 14U A heading to state

03/17/2010, 9:36am (CDT)
By J Brenny

The 14A Rebels had an outstanding year. It features a unique collection of 8th and 9th grade girls that began working together in late September and still enjoy coming to practice six months later! Many of the girls have played and developed together in CPYHA going back to their Rebel 8U team. The addition of a few other strong players over the years has created a special group of like-minded teammates who are willing to work hard and never quit. They are:

Brittany Wheeler
Maggie Cragg
Gabby Paulsrud
Jocy Meyer
Sydney Peluf
Marjie McNamara
Molly Rossbach
Cassie Meyer
April Erickson
Nathalie Cade
Alyssa Sakkinen
Hailee Haupert
Delaney Everett
Maddy Foss

The 14A Rebels compiled an overall record of 28-16-5, including a 9-5-2 record in district play which was good for third place in a competitive District 10- 14A green division. The team also put up a record of 11-3-1 in four invitational tournaments during the season, bringing home hardware in each of them. The team went 2-1 in the District 10 playoffs in Blaine and 3-2 in the American Regionial in Anoka, earning one of three State tournament berths from their region. Backup goaltender and new friend, Dominique Jungles, was added from the 14A River Lakes Stars prior to regions and will accompany the team to State.

The Rebels now move on to face the #1 ranked Wayzata Trojans on Friday in the opening round of the 14A State tournament in Cloquet on March 19-21. Also in the 8 team field are: Edina, Minnetonka, Andover, Blaine, Roseau, and Moorhead. The team held a fundraiser this past weekend at the CPYHA mite Jamboree by running a “14A Shoot for State” shooting station and a silent auction. The girls raised over 400 dollars and want to thank all their supporters, who generously donated to help reduce some of the extra costs associated with the trip to State. Lastly, the team wants to acknowledge Head Coach- Dave Everett and assistant coaches- Kevin McNamara, Willy Cragg and John Meyer who have given so much time and energy to help them get to this point.

Good luck at State 14A Rebels- these memories will last a lifetime!

14A Rebels Grab State Tourney Berth

03/07/2010, 10:16pm (CDT)
By B Rossbach

Win is the Stuff Dreams Are Made of...

The 14A Rebels won a trip to the 14A State Hockey Tournament March 19-21 in Cloquet, MN. As usual with this group of gritty girls, they did it the hard way!

Needing to finish in the top two of their pool to earn a chance to go to state, the 14A Rebels lost their opening game of regions on Friday, 5-2 to Blaine. With their backs against the wall, the girls won two hard fought games on Saturday by beating Elk River 3-2 and White Bear Lake 2-0. This earned them second place in their pool and a Sunday morning matchup with rival Andover to play for the region’s first seed to state. Tied 2-2 entering the third period, the 14A Rebels seemed to have the Huskies on their heels, but fell 5-2 and put themselves on the brink of elimination. The team had one last chance on Sunday afternoon to win the region’s third and final seed to state in a winner take all game against Centennial Red. The two teams played to a 1-1 tie at the end of regulation, setting up a sudden death overtime where the winner goes to state and the loser goes home. The girls worked very hard in the extra session. The offense created opportunities, the defense was tough, and the goaltending was solid. Finally, late in the first overtime, the girls lit the lamp and sent the crowd into a frenzy and themselves into the 14A State Tournament!

The girls want to thank the many CPYHA girls hockey fans that showed up this weekend to cheer them to victory. Many of the girls former coaches and the parents and boosters of several current and former CPYHA girls players were in attendance. Another thank you to River Lakes 14A goaltender, Dominique Jungles, who served as backup, and fit in as a new friend and bench supporter. Special thanks to the many 12B players who rushed up to Anoka arena after their morning win in Richfield- (congratulations 12B!) and sat together in their Rebel jerseys and cheered us on. All the girls said the crowd was awesome and helped them dig deep for the win.

Congratulations 14A players and coaches! Good luck at State 14A Rebels! You did us proud!
