Concussion Signs and Symptoms

There are 1.6 to 3.8 million sports related concussions reported by athletes each year. A CONCUSSION is a disturbance of the brain function that occurs floowing either a blow to the head or as a result of the violent shaking of the head.

Symptoms:
What are the signs of a concussion?

Signs observed by others:
• Appears to be dazed or stunned
• Is confused about assignments or daily activities
• Forgets plays or routines of daily living
• Moves clumsily
• Answers questions slowly
• Shows behavior or personality change
• Forgets events before/after impact
• Loses consciousness

Symptoms reported by injured individual:
• Headache
• Nausea
• Balance problems or dizziness
• Double or fuzzy vision
• Sensitivity to light or noise
• Feeling sluggish
• Feeling “foggy”
• Change in sleep pattern
• Concentration or memory difficulties
