About

The CPYHA Breakfast Club is a fun, intensive, and focused hockey development program provided by Kern Hockey. Our optional, early morning training sessions are held twice per week throughout the hockey season, before the school day.

CPYHA welcomes all Mites through High School skaters—both boys and girls (all ACPCR girls welcome)—to attend these training sessions.

What We Cover

Skating

We cover stride, edges, heel stride, toe starts, punch turns, 10 and 2, and crossovers. We consistently incorporate pucks into skating drills to ensure players can execute refined techniques while also handling the puck, a skill that translates directly to game situations.

Stickhandling

We teach players to prepare and position the puck using five essential stickhandling set-up positions: Between the Feet, Forehand, Backhand, Quarter Body, and Cross Body. We then build on this foundation by teaching players to control the puck when it's extended away from the body.

Puck Protection

Key techniques include the Lateral Reach Forehand, Lateral Reach Backhand, and Full Lateral Reach to the Backhand (using your top hand only). This training enhances your ability to maintain possession and evade defenders.

Dekes

We cover foot-to-foot, slip through, pull back, toe pull, pull in/push out, and side deke. We combine the set-up positions with modern dekes that lead directly into a shot. All drills are designed to transfer seamlessly to real-game scenarios.

Shooting

We focus on preparing players to be effective shooters in all game situations by concentrating on different angles and scenarios.

Wrist Shot: Shoot off your back foot, releasing the puck from the heel to the middle of the blade.

Quick Release/Stride Shot: Shoot in stride off your front foot, releasing the puck off the toe of the blade.

Gear Recommendations

We will provide personalized feedbaclk and gear recommendations regarding the newest equipment data, gear sizing, stick specs, skate sharpening and profiling, etc. and dedicated customer service.
